core values

“Your core values are the deeply held beliefs that authentically describe your soul.”

— John C Maxwell

Have you ever felt like you're wandering off course or unsure of your next step?

Defining your core values could be the anchor you need. When you live in alignment with these values, it’s easier to make decisions, navigate challenges, and stay true to yourself.

Why Core Values Matter

Brené Brown, renowned for her research on vulnerability and courage, talks about the importance of living in alignment with core values. She emphasizes that knowing your values isn’t just a feel-good exercise — it’s foundational to living authentically. In her book Dare to Lead, Brown explains that our values act as a "North Star," guiding us through both easy and tough times.

Brown’s research shows that having just two clear, non-negotiable values creates focus and resilience. When we know what matters most, we can handle stress, uncertainty, and setbacks with grace because we're grounded in what’s deeply important to us.

Experts like Simon Sinek, known for his work on leadership and purpose, also highlight the importance of values. Sinek says that core values are essential in finding your "why." When we understand our why — our purpose — it’s easier to lead with confidence and inspire those around us.

How to Identify Your Core Values

Understanding your core values might seem daunting, but it's a powerful way to bring clarity to your life. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Reflect on moments when you felt most fulfilled or proud. What values were you honoring in those moments?

  2. List at least 20 values that resonate with you — qualities like honesty, growth, creativity, or connection.

  3. Prioritize your top 2-4 values. These are the ones that reflect who you are at your core.

Why This Matters Now

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. But by identifying your top values, you gain clarity and a sense of direction. These values will help you stay grounded, and when challenges arise, you’ll be able to handle them with more ease, knowing you’re staying true to your deeper purpose.

Take the first step by downloading our Core Values Worksheet and start identifying the values that will guide you forward. This small action can create a huge shift in how you approach both everyday decisions and life’s biggest challenges.

As Brené Brown says, “Courage is contagious.” When you live by your values, you inspire others to do the same. And that’s how real change begins.
