Can we talk about seva?
In our fast-paced world, it's easy to become absorbed in our own lives and forget the profound joy that comes from serving others.

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to become absorbed in our own lives and forget the natural, profound joy that comes from serving others. Today, let's take a moment to explore the transformative power of being of service, or "seva," a Sanskrit term that translates to selfless service performed without any expectation of reward.
A team member here at rooh recently volunteered at an experience hosted by the Isha Foundation, based on the teachings of Sadhguru, a yogic leader, who often emphasizes the importance of seva in his foundation and yogic teachings. He teaches that seva is not just an act of kindness but a pathway to personal growth and inner joy.

When we extend our hands to help someone, we experience a profound connection that transcends our individual selves.
“Service is not about giving something to someone. It is about receiving something much more valuable – the opportunity to expand your own life.” This perspective shifts the focus from what we lose by giving to what we gain – a sense of fulfillment, purpose, and inner peace. As Winston Churchill wisely stated, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
And acts of service don't need to be grand gestures to make a difference. Often, it's the small gestures, those seemingly insignificant moments, that have the most impact. Here are some simple ways you can make a difference:
Lend a Listening Ear
Volunteer Your Time
Share Your Skills
Spread Kindness
Now we encourage you to take a moment to reflect on how you have or can incorporate seva into your daily life. Remember, it's not about the magnitude of the act but the intention behind it. As Sadhguru beautifully puts it,
The word “seva” means you offer yourself. You don’t go there to get anything. You go there to lose yourself.
