A special post included about an experience we recently attended

Fueling today’s newsletter 🎧: FKJ’s take on Fly

Today's newsletter celebrates an author who turns life's most profound moments into stories that resonate deeply within our souls.

As one of my favorite authors, his recently published book "The Little Liar" taught me so much about the power of truth, vulnerability, and human resilience. Mitch Albom continues to inspire and move readers with stories that touch the deepest parts of our humanity.

Mitch Albom's new book, "Twice", arrives this October — a moment that has me counting down the days. Get in line next to me on the pre-order list now!

Sometimes, the most powerful narratives emerge from the most unexpected places. In the essay that follows, I'll share my recent experience attending a conversation with Mitch Albom.

"The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.”

- Mitch Albom

Mitch Albom's author journey began with a simple act of listening. During his first meeting with Professor Morrie Schwartz, he learned that truly hearing someone's story can be transformative. The lesson? Meaningful connections happen when we stop talking and start genuinely listening.

Listening is more than hearing words. It's about:

  • Being fully present

  • Suspending judgment

  • Creating space for actual authentic sharing

  • Recognizing and accepting the humanity in another person's experience

One conversation can alter the trajectory of your life—just as it did for Mitch when he reconnected with Morrie, leading to "Tuesdays with Morrie" and a entire career dedicated to sharing stories.

Inspired by Mitch Albom's storytelling about connection and gratitude, we've crafted a reflection to honor those who've shaped our lives - Gratitude Reflection:

  • Set a timer for 2 minutes

  • Think of a mentor or person who has significantly influenced your life

  • Write down three specific ways they've helped shape your perspective

  • Visualize sending them silent appreciation

  • Notice how acknowledging their impact on your life makes you feel

  • Ask yourself: What lesson am I carrying forward because of their influence?

This week, let’s transform inspiration into action by creating a moment of deep connection, just as Mitch Albom transforms everyday moments into profound stories.

Reach out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while by initiating a conversation that goes beyond small talk. When you connect, ask them a thoughtful question that invites actual, genuine sharing. As they respond, make a conscious effort to listen with the intention of truly understanding their story, paying attention to the nuances of their experiences and perspectives. Take time to reflect on what you learn about them—their journey, challenges, and insights.

Write down one insight from this conversation that surprises you or shifts your perspective. Share your experience by replying to this email or tag @with.rooh with #meaningfulconnection.
